Four months after "Jackass" ceased production, its creators have signed a deal with MTV to produce a feature film and several TV specials.

The aggressively goofy stunt show, in which host Johnny Knoxville and a group of professional stunt players performed such antics as setting themselves on fire and swimming in raw sewage, was MTV's highest-rated show during its 24-episode run. Repeats of the show aired up to 10 times a week.

Knoxville and his "Jackass" co-creators, Jeff Tremaine and Spike Jonze ("Being John Malkovich" ), packed up the production in August. "We have done enough," Knoxville said at the time, although he acknowledged the crew could be coaxed into producing specials for the cable channel. "With this kind of comedy, people become inured to the shock value."

The show also came into the crosshairs of politicians like Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman after several teens were injured trying to copy "Jackass" stunts.

Few details about the "Jackass" movie are available. Knoxville will star in the production, which Tremaine will direct. It's scheduled for release sometime in 2002. Three "Jackass" specials will also air on MTV sometime next year.
